frontiers: upper end

Dachy w miastach bywają fascynujące nie tylko przez to, że są trudno dostępne i oferują fantastyczny widok, którego rzadko kto może dostąpić, ale również przez to, że w zabudowanym krajobrazie stanowią jedno z niewielu miejsc gdzie można dojrzeć kres miasta - w tym wypadku kres "w górę". Temat wszelkiego rodzaju granic chodzi mi już od dłuższego czasu po głowie, stąd i ta wydała mi się interesująca. 

//City rooftops tend to be intriguing not just since they're hard to get to and offer unique views which only a few are allowed to see, but also because in the dense landscape od buildings the are one of the few places from which you can see the city end - in this case it's its upper end. The subject of borderlines of various kinds caught my mind a while ago, so this one seemed interesting as well.

Cergy-Pontoise /mind notes/

Długo nosiłem się z zamiarem fotograficznego "powrotu" do Cergy, ale nie mogłem się zdobyć na odpowiedni dystans, który pozwoliłby mi jakoś opisać to miejsce obrazami. Podczas pobytu tam nie potrafiłem w zasadzie zrobić zdjęć z których byłbym zadowolony, za bardzo czułem się częścią tego miasta, które w mojej pamięci zapisało się w dużym stopniu, choć nie wyłącznie, źle. Dopiero teraz udało mi się wybrać zdjęcia oddające to jak pamiętam to dalekie przedmieście Paryża, gdzie spędziłem sporo ważnego dla mnie czasu. Co ciekawe, zdjęcia pochodzą z uszkodzonego Olympusa mju którego wtedy miałem, ale zwróciłem z powodu zupełnej nieprzewidywalności. Uroki lomografii.

//I've been thinking about a photographic "return" to Cergy for a long time, but I just couldn't get mentally distant enough to be able to describe the essence of that place. While there, I found it extremely tough to take pictures the way I wanted, I felt too much a part of that place and I was overwhelmed by its (mostly) gloomy atmosphere. Only now I was able to make a selection of photos which reflect part of how I remember this far suburb of Paris, where I spent a bog portion of an important period in my life. Surpsiringly, those pictures came out a broken Olympus mju which I had at the time, but returned it after shooting only two rolls, as it was completely unreliable. Oh, the beauty of lomography!

miasto Toruń

Być może słyszeliście już to i owo o Toruniu. Renomowane uczelnie, znani obywatele - obecni i ci sprzed lat - a przede wszystkim piękna starówka. Podczas krótkiej wizyty, drugiej, bo pierwsza była w dzieciństwie, przekonałem się, że do tego wszystkiego należy dołożyć jeszcze świetny, wyluzowany klimat i pozytywnych mieszkańców.

//You might've heard a thing or two about Toruń. Renowned schools, famous citizens - both from present day and from the past - and, above all, beautitful old town. During my short visit, a second one, since the first took place in my childhood, I've learned that on top of that two more things must be added: wonderful  laid back atmosphere and friendly people.

Tak już mam, że jak się chwycę jakiegoś tematu to ciągnę do końca (przynajmniej w fotografii, czasami) - dlatego dzisiaj znowu będzie o Niemcach. A właściwie nie 'znowu', bo tym razem w obiektywie znajdą się ludzie, przedstawiciele naszego sąsiedniego narodu. Wszyscy mniej lub bardziej zdezorientowani, zniesmaczeni lub w najlepszym razie zaskoczeni. Taki mały powrót na szwabską ulicę, gdzie nie było mnie od 2006 lub 2007 roku. Zwróćcie uwagę na Supermana.

When start a topic, I tend to work on it till it's finished (at least in photography, and at least sometimes) - that's why you'll see more Germans today. Or, more precisely, not 'more', as for the first time the focus will be on people, members of our neighboring nation. All of them more or less disoriented, apalled, or, in the best case, heavily surprised. It's kind of a comeback to the German street, after an absence since 2006 or 2007. Don't miss the Superman.

polskie drogi

Jestem fanem podróżowania po Polsce, w zasadzie podoba mi się z każdego środka lokomocji. Najbardziej zwykle ceniłem kolej (i to aż do lirycznej przesady - oto dowody), jednak ostatnio miałem okazję trochę więcej i dalej pojeździć samochodem. Wrażenia są zupełnie inne, ale również niezapomniane. 

Ponieważ w naszym kraju nadmiar autostrad wciąż jeszcze nie stanowi problemu, rozkoszowanie się swojskimi klimatami jest u nas dużo łatwiej dostępne niż w niektórych innych krajach. Mam szczególny sentyment do drogi krajowej nr 1,  łączącej Śląsk z Łodzią, Warszawą i Trójmiastem, będącej najdłuższym fragmentem trasy E75 łączącej Morze Barentsa z Egejskim. Droga ta, na szczególnie uwielbianym przeze mnie odcinku nazywana "gierkówką", ma szereg zalet krajoznawczych, jest dla mnie trochę jak Polska w pigułce. Poniżej li tylko przyczynek do peanu na jaki zasługuje ten szlak.

I've always been a fan of travelling through Poland, in fact, I like it regardless of the vehicle in use. Usually I held railways in the greatest esteem (up to some poetic exaggeration - here is the proof), however, I've recently had a chance to do drive a little more. It was completely different, but also unforgettable.

As our country won't suffer from an overflow of highways for a long time, ejnoying homely views is much easier than in some other countries you could name. I hold a special sentiment towards the National Road n.1, connecting my native region of Silesia with central cities of Łódź and Warsaw, or the coast. It is also a part of the European route E75, which connects Barents Sea with the Aeagean one. The road, in my most favourite part called "gierkówka" (after the communist-era leader Edward Gierek who initiated its construction), has numerous touristic qualities, and to me is a bit like "Poland in a nutshell". Below is my small initial contribution to a photographic coverage it deserves.

Opole - zaskakująco przyjazne i przytulne miasto. Małe, bo małe, ale wojewódzkie (i uniwersyteckie), co się przekłada na pewne optyczne złudzenie wielkości. Poniżej kilka zdjęć, które mniej więcej odzwierciadlają wrażenia z mojej pierwszej, ale na pewno nie ostatniej wyprawy do tego grodu. Jedno może nie być przeznaczone dla najmłodszych.

Opole - a surprisingly friendly and cozy city. Small, true, but since it's a seat of the voivodship (the largest unit of administrative division of Poland) and a university, there is a certain optical ilusion of a much larger size. Below is a couple of pictures which correspond to my impression of the town during my first, but certainly not the last visit there. One may not be appropriate for minors.
