Porażka nie wywarła na Francuzach bardzo deprymującego efektu. Poza kilkoma odgłosami zawodu bezpośrednio po meczu nie było żałoby narodowej, co w zasadzie koresponduje z bardziej oszczędnym w środkach stylem kibicowania, przynajmniej w porównaniu z ogarniającym jeszcze niedawno Polskę szaleństwem. Najbardziej zawiedziony wydawał się bezdomny, który do ostatniej minuty obserwował mecz przez okno angielskiego pubu, gdzie udało nam się wcisnąć.
